Another Banner Year for Grants and Awards
Again, this year, our research teams were recognized for their excellence as results were announced for the recipients of Fonds de recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ) awards and grants. Indeed, several members of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Research Centre received offers of funding! Congratulations to all selected candidates.
Research Scholars
Dr Jean-Philippe Lafrance of the Nephrology Axis received a Junior 1 award for his project “Merge of the Canadian Organ Replacement Register (CORR) with provincial administrative databases and assessment of complications linked to dialysis”.
Ellen Freeman, Ph.D. of the Vision Health Axis received a Junior 1 award for her project “Eye diseases in Quebec and around the world: frequency, risk factors and impact”.
Éric Milot, Ph.D. of the Immunology-Oncology Axis received a Senior award for his project “A study of the mechanisms of epigenetic regulation during hematopoiesis and of deregulated or mutated genes during malignant hematopoiesis”.
In addition to theses awards, Drs Freeman and Lafrance received the Establishment of Young Researchers grant.
Research Grants
Ellen Freeman, Ph.D. of the Vision Health Axis was awarded a Population Health Research grant for her project “The global burden of vision loss”.
Dr Jean Roy of the Immunology-Oncology Axis was awarded a Research in transfusion medicine, transplantation and biomonitoring grant for his project “Creation of a study group to increase understanding of graft versus host disease (GVHD) and establish biomarkers for early detection of the disease”.
Training Awards
Jing Wang, a Master’s student in Dr Mark Lesk’s research unit, she received an FRSQ award for her project “A cross-sectional study of the relationship between the biomechanical properties of the eye, vasospasm and glaucoma”.
François Binet, a postdoctoral trainee in Dr Mike Sapieha's research unit, for his project “Regulating angiogenesis with lactate receptor GPR81”.
All submissions are evaluated by a peer committee.
