Two Major Grants for Dr. Sylvie Lesage
Pfizer-FRSQ Grant
A team of researchers including our Research Centre’s Dr. Sylvie Lesage has been awarded a three-year $800,000 grant as part of the very first Pfizer-FRSQ competition for its project entitled Integrative biology of genes associated with several inflammatory diseases: diagnostic and therapeutic improvements. Lead by the Montreal Heart Institute’s Dr. John Rioux, the team is comprised of two additional co-investigators, Dr. Sylvain Chemtob from Sainte-Justine Hospital (who will soon be joining the HMR Research Centre team) and Dr. Stephen Michnick from the Université de Montréal.
CIHR Grant
In addition to the above-mentioned funding, the very same team was recently awarded a five-year grant of $2,346,727 from the CIHR Emerging Team Grant: From Genes to Proteins, Cells, Tissues and Patients program.
Project: CIHR Emerging Team in Integrative Biology of Inflammatory Diseases: IL23R as a confirmed immune disease pathway: a model for translating genetic discoveries into better diagnosis and treatment of common diseases
These two projects will help shed some light on the biological process of an important signalling pathway for Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory diseases, as well as embark on the preclinical stages for the development of a new treatment.
