More Awards!
June 2, 2009 – Several members of our research teams have recently received awards in recognition of their excellent work. Congratulations to them all!
Canadian Cancer Society
Dr. Janetta Bijl, a research investigator in the research unit for the genetics of hematopoiesis of blood cancers of the Immunology-Oncology Research Department, was awarded a research grant from the Canadian Cancer Society for her project titled: Elucidating the Role of HoxA Genes in Hematopoiesis. She will be receiving an annual amount of $126 275 for five years.
Awards and Scholarships
- Fanny Guimont-Desrochers and Erin Hillhouse, students on Dr. Sylvie Lesage’s research team, were awarded the Canada Frederick Banting and Charles Best Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral Award. It is the highest honour given by the CIHR in recognition of doctorate students who demonstrate “an exceptional potential for research and productivity”. The scholarship includes an annual salary of $30 000 and expense income of $5000 for four years.
- Nazar Mashtalir, a student on Dr. El Bachir Affar’s research team, received a doctoral scholarship award from the Fonds Québécois de la Recherche sur la Nature et les Technologies (FQRNT). This highly competitive scholarship consists of an annual award of $25 000 for a period of two years.
Best Presentation
Josée Michaud, a doctorate student on Dr. Vincent Pichette’s research team in the Nephrology Research Department, won the prize for the best poster presentation at the Gabriel L. Plaa Research Day of the University of Montreal’s Department of Pharmacology, which took place on May 29.
