Proudly Contributing to “International Diabetes Research Efforts”
July 8, 2008 – The next generation of research investigators is obviously present at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital! Following all the success that the research students of the CRHMR obtained from different organizations this past May, Diabète Québec awarded summer research scholarships to two research students.
Created in 1954, Diabète Québec is an association committed to information and public awareness, prevention, services, advocacy, research and education for people living with diabetes. As the future of research in Quebec depends upon developing skilled students, Diabète Québec has made summer research scholarships available to young people working with experienced research investigators.
- Véronique Dugas, a Ph.D. student on Dr Sylvie Lesage’s research team, obtained a research scholarship of $5000 for her project titled: Étude fonctionnelle d'une rare population de lymphocytes T impliquée dans la résistance au diabète de type 1.
- Fanny Guimont-Desrochers, a M.Sc. student on the same research team, obtained a research scholarship of $4000 for her project titled: Rôle des IKDC dans la prédisposition au diabète de type 1.
- Stéphanie Bilodeau, a B.Sc. student in Biochemistry, received a research scholarship of $3000 for her project titled: Rôle des cellules endothéliales dans la promotion de la survie et la fonction des îlots de Langerhans microencapsulés, under the supervision of Dr Jean-Pierre Hallé.
Thanks to these research scholarships, these two students can continue contributing to the international diabetes research efforts.
