RESEARCH INTERESTS
Our key research objective is to establish the value and benefits of new techniques and technology in joint degeneration treatment. Through our research, we wish to participate in the advancement of scientific knowledge and to improve the quality of care given to orthopedic patients. We take a thorough scientific approach with regard to all of our clinical research hypotheses. The majority of our current research protocols are prospective and randomized. We favour evaluation research projects that aim to provide a response to a clinical problem.
We examine and improve new surgical techniques (mini incisions, different access approaches, etc.) and preoperative pain-reducing analgesics. We also wish to determine whether or not traditional surgery techniques, such as hip resurfacing, unicompartimental knee prosthesis and metal-on-metal bearing surface friction, improve function, reduce convalescence time and extend implant lifecycle. Our unique projects consist of several evaluations: functional evaluation in the Gate Laboratory; measuring cobalt, chromium and titanium ions in blood and urine; evaluating individual clinical outcomes; measuring periprosthetic bone density, x-ray analyses; etc. Our research team is now regarded as a world leader in this research field.
